Distinctly Catholic Programs - the key to our kids future

We constantly hear about the crisis of faith our kids are going through these days. Some say it's nothing new, others say it's getting worse by the day. Personally, I don't think our kids have a chance at remaining Catholic unless they are shown what "Catholic" really means. Too often I see programs for our kids that are neutralized Protestant programs or Catholic teachings distorted by personal doctrine and worldly views.

I was very happy to find a website out there from a Catholic kids ministry called Cat. Chat (short for Catholic Chat). SOLID Catholic teaching packaged up in a fun, engaging way. They have audio shows, CD's (music is definitely one of their strengths) and a VBS that's Catholic from start to finish. I was really impressed! Whether for classroom or homeschooling, I think many will be blessed by it!

Catholic entertainment group announces Talent Search and Spring Auditions.

Saint Cecilia Classical Productions Inc. is a new pro-life, pro-family, music-based, Catholic apologetics apostolate. Our basic purpose is to provide orthodox Catholic entertainers who can be good role models for today’s young people, and, at the same time, impart the truths of the faith to them.

We are currently conducting a nationwide talent search (US & Canada) for traditional Catholic young ladies of exceptional musical ability in the area of classical voice (soprano ranges). Additional abilities in the areas of piano and or violin would be very helpful.

Some general questions

Hello Homeschoolers. I realize you are all much busier than others here on this forum but maybe, if you have some thoughts, you could share them with me over the next few weeks.

Yes, I am "on a journey". I need to start addressing the non-stop tape running through my head....it keeps playing the same thing, over and over, ....."Why are you not homeschooling the kids?".

I thought I'd start here. I have so many questions as I am very unsure about how I feel about homeschooling--that is, homeschooling for ME. I so admire homeschooling families but it just doesn't seem like something I can do--and I don't mean the academics of it. I have no doubt I can actually teach my children. I'm just not sure about pulling them all out of Catholic school---against all of their desires. (And their desires are important but I would not base the decision solely on that---I don't believe school choice is a childs' choice to make.)

Children's Activity and Coloring Books

I found a wonderful site for children's books called

www.holyfamilypress.com

and they sell children's books, both activity and coloring books.

Each book contains something for the child to cut out, color and keep. In the beginning of every book, there is a ‘mini’ catechism followed by many different puzzles..

Preparing the Teachers

God loves you .

Just a thought on reading for you teachers - I mean, I can't see you looking over at your nine-year-old and reminding - "John, remember, Thucydides report Monday".

From the reading list (http://www.wyomingcatholiccollege.com/tabid/192/Default.aspx) for students at the new Wyoming Catholic College -

NOW - now, that place seems cool enough to prepare good old 9-y-o John and the whole home team for.

For the time being, ideas for your higher-faculty reading, eh?

Remember, I love you, too

Hi, I discovered these Holy Toys and wanted to share them with you. Jesus, Mary, Esther, Moses, David, Goliath, Noah, Samson and other Holy Dolls. The Spirit Warriors are great for the boys as well as the Jesus Doll. They recite their biography and bible verses. Their is also a Toy Nativity. The web site is www.blessedtoys.com/members/jenmary

The Ultimate Resource 2

God loves you .

(HINT: This resource(s) in your house are grinning up at you right now.)

This seemed so useful in posting at the article about Freedonomics' findings about abortion and crime, I thought it might help homeschooling parents to look into this . . .

I refer you to Julian L. Simon’s book, The Ultimate Resource 2, by which he demonstrates informatively and in depth how maximized population is key to maximized economy.

The witness of one homeschooled adult

I am 27 and was homeschooled all but 3rd-5th grade. My dad and I opened a business earlier this year teaching kids how to cook. I own my own business keeping track of databases for a local political campaign. I cantor Gregorian Chant at Mass, am part of the leadership group for the diocesan young adults group, belong to a local NFP group in which we will give talks for marriage prep about the positive impact NFP has made in our marriage.

Because I was homeschooled, I was exempt from child-labor laws and was able to get a job at the local CiCi's pizza at 14 years old. My boss owned the franchise and taught me how to be a good boss. I had that job for 3 years. I started my first business at the age of 20, as a sound and light board operator and equipment technician for local area rock bands. I worked 6 nights a week for about $25 per hour. I was completely freelance.
